The Pernille Højman Memorial Lecture
This lecture was instituted to commemorate Pernille Højman - an exceptional, young research talent.
Pernille Højman (1978-2019) was senior researcher, group leader, and Lundbeck Foundation Fellow at the Centre for Physical Activity Research, Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, Denmark. Pernille was an extremely talented researcher. She started out with an interest in understanding the effect of exercise-induced muscle-derived factors, known as ‘‘myokines,’’ on whole-body metabolism. During recent years Pernille also focused on translating her basic results to the benefit of patients with cancer. Pernille published >70 papers in peer reviewed journals. Many of these publications will live forever. Pernille was a shining beacon of light as a person and as a scientist. In her honor, we have instituted the Pernille Højman Memorial Lecture, which has been held annually since 2019. After the Memorial Lecture, the Pernille Højman Travel Grant, instituted by Pernille’s husband Torben Højman Jensen, is awarded to a talented young, upcoming researcher working within the field of exercise and/or cancer research.
