Professor Michael Karin is internationally recognised as one of the world's leading scientists in the fields of inflammation, metabolism, and cancer biology. Over a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, his pioneering research has transformed our understanding of how chronic inflammation, obesity, environmental stress, and the immune system contribute to the development of cancer and metabolic diseases.

His work has been instrumental in establishing the field of inflammation and cancer, uncovering the molecular mechanisms that link immune signalling to tumour development. More recently, his research has focused on liver and pancreatic cancers, revealing how metabolism, nutrition, and the tumour micro environment influence disease progression while paving the way for promising new therapeutic strategies.
